Shipping to the U.S. doesn’t have to involve purchasing USPS postage. With your Chit Chats account you have another option with UPS Mail Innovations (UPS MI) for your U.S.-bound shipments.
How it works
UPS MI is a partnership that makes use of UPS’s expansive network to reduce handling and processing by working closely with USPS. UPS handles shipments until the final mile when they are handed off to USPS for delivery.
UPS MI can accommodate shipments up to 70 lbs and postage is determined by the weight of the shipment and the destination. Dimensional weight applies for shipments that weigh more than 1 lb, however dimensions are required for all shipments.
Important! Due to the transportation methods of this carrier, there are stricter limitations on what can be shipped. Please familiarize yourself with the restrictions specific to this carrier before shipping.

You require tracking for your lightweight domestic shipments
All UPS MI shipments include full tracking with delivery confirmation for your recipients. Tracking updates will be available directly in your Chit Chats account or by searching your tracking number on the carrier’s tracking site.
You want to insure your shipments
This service is eligible for full coverage Chit Chats insurance available through our platform. Adding insurance to your UPS MI shipments is quick and easy.
You want to lower your shipping costs
UPS MI often provides cheaper rates than USPS, especially for larger parcels.
Purchasing UPS MI Postage
To purchase UPS MI postage for your shipment, begin by creating a shipment as you normally would. Our UPS MI service is tailored specifically for parcels, so when purchasing postage through our platform you will need to select ‘parcel’ for your package type. When creating shipments manually, rates for UPS MI will appear on the Postage step for eligible domestic addresses. UPS MI is not available for shipments to U.S. territories.
If importing your shipments or using our API, make sure you indicate the following:
- package_type = parcel
- postage_type = ups_mi_expedited
Please note that UPS MI does not offer return postage. Shipments will incur a return postage fee in addition to our returns service fee.
Getting your shipments to us
As with all of the shipment types we accept, your UPS MI packages must be sorted separately from other carriers. In addition, UPS MI shipments should not be packaged in USPS or other carrier-branded shipping supplies. We want to ensure your parcel is sorted correctly to avoid potential delays. We cannot be responsible for any shipments that are brought to us unsorted or packaged incorrectly.
If you batch your shipments, multiple carriers may exist within the same batch however, shipments must be sorted physically by carrier.
